Overview
Ahrefs is one of the largest and most established SEO platforms in the market, now expanding heavily into AI visibility and answer engine optimization. Originally known for backlink analysis, keyword research, technical SEO audits, and competitive intelligence, Ahrefs has evolved into a broader marketing platform that helps brands measure discoverability across both traditional search engines and AI-generated search experiences. Its newer Brand Radar product tracks AI visibility, citations, and share-of-voice across ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, and other AI systems, positioning Ahrefs as one of the first legacy SEO suites aggressively adapting to the AI search era.
Best For
SEO teams, enterprise marketing organizations, agencies, and SaaS companies needing both traditional SEO infrastructure and AI visibility analytics in one platform.
What it does?
Ahrefs helps companies analyze and improve visibility across search engines, AI-generated answer systems, and the broader web ecosystem. Ahrefs also provides tools for content optimization, site crawling, link building, SERP analysis, YouTube visibility research, and AI content optimization workflows. How it helps with AEO?
Ahrefs helps with AEO by extending traditional SEO analytics into AI-generated search environments. Through Brand Radar, the platform tracks how brands appear inside AI answers across ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Google AI Overviews, and other AI systems. Ahrefs analyzes AI citations, share-of-voice, brand mentions, and content visibility while connecting those signals back to traditional SEO factors like backlinks, YouTube mentions, freshness, and authority. The company has also published large-scale AI visibility research based on billions of data points, identifying factors that influence AI-generated citations and discoverability. Combined with technical SEO audits, backlink intelligence, and content optimization workflows, Ahrefs enables organizations to manage SEO and AI visibility from one unified platform instead of relying on separate GEO tooling stacks.

What do you like best about Ahrefs?
At Botpresso, Ahrefs is one of the main tools we use when working on SEO audits, competitor research, and content planning for clients.
What I personally rely on the most is Site Explorer. It helps us quickly understand which pages are driving traffic for a website, what keywords they rank for, and how their backlink profile looks. This becomes really useful when we’re trying to figure out why a competitor is outperforming a client.
We also use Ahrefs for keyword research and content validation especially to check if a topic has real traffic potential before investing time in creating content. The data is consistent enough that we can confidently base decisions on it.
